The Nurtured Seed Story

I have always loved growing things ever since I was a little kid wandering the rows of my grandma’s garden. Trees, plants, and anything outdoors brings me a lot of joy. It is truly amazing how something so tiny like a seed, when nourished and cared for, can become something tasty, beautiful or grand.

When we were pregnant with our first child husband and I were driving up the canyon and fell in love with all the aspen trees we saw. We decided that would be the name of our daughter. Aspen.

When deciding what to name our second child, I felt strongly about naming her and subsequent children after her after trees. Hazel was born, followed by our son Rowan, who was trailed by our sweet little Juniper.

As I nurture my children I want them to know they can become something strong and beautiful like the trees they are named after. Each night I dream of what our homestead can become as we nurture and pour our time into it. Just like our kiddos.

I also want to show people that they can bring that same beauty and joy in their own lives no matter what stage they are currently in. That is why I have started the Nurtured Seed Homestead – to teach, inspire and create alongside you all as we nourish the things we love in our own lives.

Our Homestead Story

We lived in a apartment for the first eight years of our marriage. I thought I wouldn’t be able to grow a garden or be a homesteader until we had land.

I realized I didn’t need to wait to make my dreams happen!

I began soaking up anything I could get my hands on about gardening, cooking from scratch and becoming a homesteader.

I started a sourdough starter, made bone broth and grew a little garden on the balcony of our apartment.

All that practice paid off when we finally bought a house with a tiny bit of land for me to garden on.

I was so grateful to be there and continued to grow my skills. However, I still felt like I was missing something – animals! But there was one gigantic problem – we had a Home Owners Association (HOA) and NO animals were allowed (other than cats, dogs, etc.). I considered sneaking rabbits in our back yard but figured our neighbors wouldn’t like that. Ha!

Our family lived there for two years until deciding we needed more space and freedom to live out our dreams. We bought an acre of land and are building a home! We plan to raise meat rabbits, having some laying ladies, milk goats, a massive garden and an orchard.

Join us on our journey to nurturing our little seedling family and homestead! We will be starting from scratch to build the homestead of our dreams.
